Ok so I didn’t really have time to talk about this before cause I really needed to sleep but now I’m going to explain my opinion on why this scene is very misunderstood in the whole fandom.
A lot of people think that this scene is literally nothing but a moment for Goto to realize that Masayoshi is gay and has romantic, homosexual feelings for Goto. personally believe that is false and it means you’re not understanding the message the show was trying to convey.
When Ishihara (Masayoshi’s manager) is talking to Masayoshi about love and what it means, she doesn’t say anything along the lines of “if you have romantic feelings toward someone then you’re in love”. No she said that love comes in many forms and are not limited to simply romance or family or whatever. That being said, Masayoshi has a completely open idea of love.
Getting back to the scene at hand. When Masayoshi asks Goto to marry him, he’s not saying “I want you to be my super gay husbando” he’s proposing to him as a sign to show his love to him in a non romantic way. Since his idea of love is such an open concept, unlike the majority of the viewers who saw this scene and said “GAY BOYS OMG”, Masayoshi just wants to show Goto he wants to protect him and spend his time with him every day.
Since it’s such a confusing thought for most people, they automatically jump the gun and go “oh it’s just another gay couple” but I believe the show had a lot more context behind this scene.
Just as a little disclaimer: I am in no way trying to put down homosexuals or neglect the idea of homosexuality in any type of media but sometimes people just need to look into certain things so that they can understand the message a show is trying to convey. That’s all.
